Don't boggle your mind

Here's another story i wanted to share today. By the way have i told you that each of our personal stories are not just stories but are sacred stories? Here's one for your daily dose.

From the very moment he made his first cry (uha uha uha) Lloyd Duhaylungsod declared to the world that he will be successful inspite of the given fact that he is born out of a complicated relationship. His grand mother took care of him and showered him all the love, cares and guidance. He smells the difficulty of being poor and growing without parent.

He goes to school which is seven kilometers away from his home. That means he does 14 kilometer of brisk walking a day.On Sundays he works a a janitor during his high school. He earns eight pesos every Sunday. His heart pumps faster every end of the month because he receives 32 peso check which he fairly use for his personal needs especially his favorite soap Argo. He also give some to his grand mother and the rest is his allowance. How did he do it? Ask him!

There were times that out of great need his grand mother would eat less and give to him the rest of the food.He wondered why at first but later he realized that its all because of love.(His grand mother deserves an Ulirang Lola Award)His grand mother wasn't the only good person in his life because even mother nature provide Lloyd a protection from the rain through the banana leaves planted along his path to school.

Fascinated by his achievements in school and his dedication his step mother offered to support his college education.Fast forward... After graduation he choose to work for a bank so he can have just a five day work and spend a day for church.

He applied to one of the biggest bank in the country and pass the exams and interviews. But he was devastated because when he was ask to go to the branch office for interview he was turn down with out second thought like he is not needed. The fire
is still in him and so he applied to another bank with a 3 word name.(make a guess) Pass the exams and interviews but just like the first one he was rejected.(I guess he cried a rainfall of tears that day)Anyways lets continue with his venture. Two straight denial is not enough to bring him down and he applied again to another bank. This time he decided to look for a bank that will give him a solid future and so he applied to a bank that has a very solid name.(i guess you know the name of the bank now)He pass the exams, the initial interview but once again denied on the final interview.

He believes in the saying "try and try" and so again he applied. This time to a not so solid and big bank but a bank that has many friends(read between the lines so you can guess the name of the bank)To his surprise he was accepted! When he went to apply everyone in the bank welcomed him with excitement like he is very much needed. Not only that, instead of getting the clerical job which he applied for he was hired as an auditor. Now thats really a WOW!

Just a few years after that he became the manager and was invited by another bank (a huge bank ... Metro Bank)He accepted the offer and he was assigned in Leyte but not for long because he was sent to Cebu to manage a branch.Days before he went to report for his new branch he went out to see personally the location of the bank and he almost fall to his knees.Because the bank the he is going to manage was actually one of the bank that denied him. It was bought by Metro Bank! The second bank that denied him was also bought by another bank.

Had he worked there probably he will be out of job sooner than he thinks.Or he will not be getting the position that God desired for him.He desires for clerical job but God wants him to be an auditor in preparation for managerial work. Can you see how God works now? Sometimes we can't understand why things happen and why doors slammed in front of us.God's plan for you is really big.

Let me share to you a text message from my friend and former teacher Dr.Gladys Fuentes...

"When you cannot understand God's reason for doing things the way He does, pray and whisper " Lord please give me a trusting heart and not a questioning mind"

You are inscribed in Gods hand my friend.Trust His heart and plans for you.Don't boggle your mind with a million and one question why things you did not expect are happening. That shows He is working out on something bigger and better.

P.S. The 32 pesos salary that he was able to fairly and equally allocates to his needs and to his lola is the first financial management lesson that he gets.God is amazing indeed!

Sweeter as the years go bye

Men gives all the needed sweet words and promises to capture the heart of the lady they wanted to live forever.Usually the promises goes like this
"I promise you the heavens, the moon and the stars, the flowers in the garden and all the chocolate bars". But thats during the courting. After the wedding the woman will see all the stars while waiting for their husbands to arrive home.Or the husband will eat all the sweets because the wife is diabetic ha ha ha.

Here's some tips from the single guy (thats me)to keep the marriage sweet. If this doesn't work, please don't sue me...remember i'm single.Single ladies who happens to read this item may you find my worth as a bf or husband to desire ha ha ha.

Here's the tips:

Honor each other- Give your spouse all the honor in the world in words, in kind and in action.

Be a nurse, doctor and care giver to each other- I remember one sick husband who told her wife " your love keeps healing me"(how sweet)

Bring back the courtship- Go out for a date. Walk in the park where you use to walk.Go to the mall like you use to do a decade ago.(please don't bring your credit card)

Always re-structure your family and couples activity to avoid boredom and predictability.Keep each other to look forward to a coming soon event.

Go to church together- Attend church the way you do when your where still sweethearts where you hold hands while listening to the homily.Where you listen more to the beating of your hearts than to the preaching ha ha ha.

Use Paraphrasing in your communication- This will help you and your spouse be cleared about some issues or concerns. It will help you both to get to the point vividly.

Have no secret- Let your spouse have access to the inbox, out box, and sent messages of your mobile phone. Give him/her access to your face book.Have a joint bank account.

Always Empathize- Before you decide to react or decide always think of how your spouse would feel about it.Put your self in their situation before you give a decision.

Marriage is a sacred thing.Others stormed all the sacred sites and even the heaven to find a wife and husband while you got yours. That makes you blessed.Value and treasure the privilege of being married. As for me...the search is not yet over.

Staying sane and effective

Leaders and Managers are human beings too. That means they also have problems and sometimes if not always they get numbed with the pressures they are facing.I have seen leaders get detached from his fellow human creatures due to pressures and conflicts that are piling up. So here's a few tips for you "Leaders" to keep you effective, sane and looking fresh ha ha ha amidst all the shaking moments.

Always be prepared like a Boy Scout- you can never tell what may happen so be ready with how you respond and not how to react on situations.

Live with accountability- see things yourself and don't just believe on what you hear.Assess and see things for yourself and with your own eye balls.

Share your goals and expectations- effective organizational leadership or management demands clear communication, goals and expectations.

Be Courageous- this will help you generate respect, loyalty, confidence among your peers and employees.

Be a solution finder- remember your Math class before? There is always a solution for every problem. You may ask people around you for some formula if you want but don't forget the "given thing."

Stand tall with Integrity- you can only do this if you have some life principles.Get one if you don't have.

Remember that tough times ever last like the last one you tackled

Remeber God and let Him intervene.

P.S. My appreciation to the best student leader i have known (Ken)who wants to embrace change, innovation and new concept. He's from East Visayan Academy of Cebu but now enjoying his fresh year in college at Adventist University of the Philippines.Make waves Ken!

Knock Knock

" A wise man will make more opportunities than he finds."
- Francis Bacon

Are you waiting for opportunities to knock on your door today? You better stop waiting my friend because you will never hear that knock knock.Opportunities will not knock on your door. You can spend your whole lifetime waiting but its going to be a waste of time.

You know why?

Because you are the opportunity! So instead of waiting for it i strongly suggest that you get up. Yeah, you get up and move and open the door to your destiny.Get up and if you are not yet dressed then you get dressed up then open your door and walk towards the blessing that awaits you. You are an opportunity!

Now let me share to you about Jacky the Opportunity

A week ago i met Jacky in the church and then we became friends.
She was born not seeing her father and for 18 years she lived with a relative in Cagayan de Oro city. When she finished high school she went to Manila and work as a house maid. Not long after that she is back in Mindanao because of the death of her uncle.

Wanting to find her place in this world and a better future she went to Cebu and lived with her mother but life wasn't easy as she expects. There was no glimpse of hope for her to study and it was even more difficult because her mother can't help her much with her other needs.Finding no hope to be able to study with her mothers assistance she turns to her inner strength instead of complaining.

Because there was no available help she made it her self because she knows she is an opportunity. In order to support her self and to pursue her desire to study she decided to venture into a small business that surely some good looking and even the not so gifted with beauty would dare not do.

She sells puto cheese, masi (i love masi especially if its free ha ha ha),biko and other snacks from eskina tita.Every morning, while the rest of the world is still sleeping Jacky is already awake and is on her way to get her products to sell.By 5:30 she is already in Highway Mandaue knocking on peoples hungry intestines to buy her stuffs. And it wasn't an easy thing to do because she needs to walk to and fro from the Highway to the fly over area and back again until all the foods are sold.

She is there from early morning to eleven in the morning inhaling the pollution, almost toasted by the sun, half frozen by the rain, maneuvering on the crowd, and experiencing the different attitudes and moods of the mob.Sometimes she is treated like she has no worth but that didnt stop her from the opportunity that she creates because she has a dream to chase.By 11:30 Jacky heads for home to get ready for her class in the afternoon. On Sundays instead of waking up late like what most teens and young people do, she is out again selling and in a much longer route of more than two kilometers walk from Gethsemane church to the highway.

She is glued to pursue her dreams and she knows she can because she believes that she is an opportunity and making excuses like i'm poor, i'm not lucky, i'm shy, i'm scared is not on her dictionary. What she believes is she is an Opportunity that will very soon knock on the doors of her dreams. Her's what i want to say to you Jack... You go GIRL!
