The Search is Over

Back when  i was small and Christmas trees were tall i longed for somebody i can run to. Somebody who will listen to me who will inspire me and to accept me and somebody who believes in me.
I searched and waited. I need this person who will be there for me when i am down, when i got problems, when i am alone, when i am sick, when i got bruises. I need this person who will make me smile. Who will celebrate my birthdays with me.
I need someone who will be there when i am hungry. I need somebody who can be available 24/7.
Then he came.... I found....

Jollibee and he made me smile. He is available truly. He feeds me (after i pay he he he). But his presence did not fully satisfy me. I need somebody still, then Mc Donald came and now i have two buddies.They served me and they were there for me. Sadly, they are not always 24/7 for me. In some areas they are but in most places they are not. Then i met Burger King, Chow King and Goto King and like my two other friends they are great but not as great as the person i wanted to meet.

When they serve me, gosh... satisfaction at its best. But my search isn't over yet.I still long for somebody greater than any one. Around the world i searched (just Philippines actually he he he) and i did not found him but then something happened. He found me. He feeds me, He listened to me He is absolutely, one hundred percent everything, and He got something which my other good buddies don't have. "HE" is everywhere and He's everything. He really is.He's all that i need.

Hes all i need, Hes all i need JESUS is all i need. I will search no more.

You can be better or best. Just choose to be one.(My story)

I have observed early in my career as a Speaker, Trainer and Coach that the people who holds a high and impressive credentials were not the most successful and fulfilled individuals. Many of the successful people are the ones coming from poverty and failure. They don't really have impressive credentials.

Some of this people even had terrible school days and grades.Yet they learn from it all. From failure they rise with clear and high hope, determination and they choose to be unstoppable. When i was in my basic education years i am the most famous kid during the checking of exam papers and in the giving of scores and grades. Almost every one expects me to get the score of two.

Actually, my classmates ( all of them including my crush ) conspires to give me the score of two even if i get 4 because there is a satisfying and brain shaking laughter (parang fiesta lang) when my teacher calls for my score.The moment my teacher ask for my rating she says "Ko" (my last name) everyone in unison will shout 2 and they laugh. why? Here's the answer.... Ko 2.

I also receive a very humbling rate of F which means i failed, yet to comfort my self i always interpret it as Famous, Fabulous, Fascinating and Fazzar (like pasar, passed in English).I thought the red lines my teacher puts on the words i wrote on my essay paper where her favorite lines.( it was actually words spelled wrongly)

Yep i never had an impressive grades, rating and credentials but i am getting closer now to my satisfying, fulfilling and successful life.The Ko 2 before which means ... that tiny crawling creature on your scalp swinging and sliding on every strand of your hair and often times resting with a straw dug into to your scalp to suck the beauty and power from you has now become a different Ko 2. It is now a Ko 2 life. Because now i give hope, inspires people, push people to become and be at their best and coach people to reach their desired destination.

Wolverines

Years ago (when Nokia 33 10 was still the hottest phone) i was invited by friends to go to a bar and spend the rest of the evening over beers, hard drinks, music and women. I said "no way! i would rather be eaten alive by wolverines!" and i said it with all my lungs and face muscles.
My friends respects me so much and they know i would stand firm to my words and so they never bother bringing me along. Instead they bring in the wolverines .... sexy, gorgeous wolverines.

Don't call temptations in because they surely will come. I have learn a lot.When they come .... Run!

For several time employees who attended my talks and seminars and some of my players,  asked me why they are not performing well. And here's my very short and quick response to their question.

"Often times you find yourself not performing great because you think that to do your best and to be at your best is up to somebody. When the truth is it's yours. Yep its your responsibility. "Yours and Yours alone"

Friend, take my word on this. Its your responsibility. Be responsible and accountable.

You're a Champion

Yes you are a champion and if you think you're still not; here's some tips just for a champion like you:

Now is the time to put your ideas into action.Don't just bottle it down in your skull.
Have a good grip of your responsibility and goals.
Picture out in your mind what success gonna look like for you.
Learn more information, knowledge and skills.Keep learning.                                                                       Continue to build relationships with your coworkers., build a strong relationship with your team mates. A relationship that is built on trust.
Lastly, know what you are expected to do and accomplish.

Opportunities and Choices

Now that i have gone a little bit older ( just a little) i reflected on the opportunities and choices that i have made. Opportunities that was suppose to bring me to where i should be and choices that would lead me to the destination that i want. But i wasted it. I wasted it by hanging around wrong people, i wasted it because of fears, i wasted it because i thought i'm not good enough, that i am short, that i am poor and sickly.
I wasted it because i don't even know what i really wanted in life.Don't follow my track. Know what you want and appreciate and take advantage of the opportunities and choices that is now right in front of you.

Life is all about choices and opportunities, no matter what you do and where you are or where you come from. I encourage you to look at life through the lens of Jesus Christ because through it you will realize the daily opportunities that you have.Wrong choices and not seeing opportunities as opportunities snared me and i have learned my lesson. ( the hard way ).

Just a Suggestion

Do you want to die so soon? Some are actually dead even if they are still 19 but their bodies will be buried when they are 80 or something. Its because they stop dreaming!
Dreaming is one of your rights and one of your greatest need. So dream! dream big dreams and act on your dreams.
Parents, teach your kids to dream or others will dream for them.

Go for Your Goals

Dear Friend,

I just realized that growing up in your generation today is really difficult.. You face more difficult choices and you struggle with all sorts of temptations and pressures more than what i experience in my time.(just to make things clear, my generation is not the ancient Mesopotamia okay).

Knowing that you have a much greater struggle to face, i offer you this few lines that i hope will inspire you:

Accept all the challenges and face it with determination and perseverance and with gratefulness.

Your generation indeed offers you a lot of pressures and reasons to quit reaching for your goals but be thankful because you are in a time and season that offers tremendous and amazing opportunities.

Find what you truly want in life and love to do.

Work hard to achieve your dreams and keep learning and unlearning.

Strive to live a life with integrity, fairness and hope.

Discipline yourself.

and lastly, keep God as your Light.

I got two traitors... they are doubt and fear. they are so damaging and cruel. And because they are, i will kill them and silence them before they do further damage.

Hey young professionals, fresh grads and students hear these inspiration i have for you.

As you move forward into days and years ahead, keep in mind and don't be afraid to aim high.
Chances are you will be tempted to do and play safe, stay in your safe zone and shoot just low like those around you.

But if you make a mediocre attempt or not to try at all, you will never see and even know the humongous things you can accomplish.

So be daring to do the impossible, the scary and the less famous.
Stand firm and reach for your star because you can really reach high the moment you try.

Are you in the valley of indecision?

Just this week i met people who dreamed of changing their lives and live the life they wanted yet they are not making a decision to make a move towards it. It  reminds me of this story about indecisiveness.

A fellow who struggled with a terrible case of indecisiveness went to see a psychiatrist to put a cure to his problems. The psychiatrist asked him " do you have trouble making up your mind?"
The fellow answered " Well, uh, uh, you know, yes uh i mean no, no, gosh! i am not really sure."

The key in achieving and reaching your desired life is to start moving towards it right now.

Are you like the guy in the story?

You're my Inspiration

I am sure you are a leader or probably a manager because you responded to my request to check my short question for you.Here's what i wanted to ask....

" Are you a leader who goes around your office, department or  facility or organization giving orders?

Don't feel bad or get me wrong  but it is one way of making your people feel uneasy, tensed and less capable of doing their task. Go around if you wish to but go around to inspire and motivate them.At the end of the day... you will hear them say, " you're my inspiration."

It all begins inside the elevator

Sir i have talent. I got skills but will i be successful with these? This question was asked to me by a diligent, cosmopolitan and pretty office assistant (messenger and photocopying in-charge).Due to limited time ( we where in the elevator) i gave her an instant and straight to the point piece of advice which i believed would help her because i have proven it my self in the lives of leaders and managers i have known. Heres the down to earth, humble and simple answer that i gave her.

" My dear, success can be achieved not just by the potential and skills that you have but it is the execution of that potential and talent that  will bring you to it. You also need the appropriate training and discipline to empower those skills.These trainings will make your potentials grow and develop into hard edged skills."

Curious like a cat she asked me another questions..." Can you help me?" (with intense facial and voice expression) Seeing on her face the deep desire to really become successful in her career and life, i uttered these few words..." It is impossible to help a person become what she can become if she doesn't have the enthusiasm and fundamental desire and commitment to take the action necessary to make success happen.."(not really few right?) ha ha ha.

That woman take action. She let me coach her.And now shes no longer an office assistant but an HR Assistant.
You got what it takes to be successful. Grow your talent. Polish your skills.Don't just be familiar with it. Grow it! Make a decision... in the elevator or where ever.

Searching for a greener pasture, a fulfilling job?
Sometimes opportunity drops into your lap and sometimes you've got to shape and carve it out for yourself so you will see its significance, beauty and glory. Recognize those situations that could be an opportunity for you and understand if it is worth pursuing.

Here's some tip o help you out as you carve those opportunities:

Understand what you are trying to undertake by doing some planning.Then take the risk.

Get some help. Somebody to coach you. Then persist.

Get focused and see the larger picture of what you really wanted.

Get connected with others. Be in a team of goal and purpose driven people.Don't be self driven.


I am very certain that more opportunities will surface for you. Be hopeful and prayerful and when the sun is up..... you better be out there running towards those opportunities.

51 Minutes

I was suppose to meet somebody that's very important today but something happened. As i walked towards the highway to catch the bus that would take me to my appointment i saw somebody. Somebody that resembles a hard working, tired but hopeful mother.

As i was approaching the waiting shed she looks at me and smiled shyly.I said " good morning ma'am and she answered me " good morning " with a low and humble tone.I don't know why but i happily  greeted her Happy Mothers Day knowing that its going to be Mothers Day tomorrow.. Then she look at me with teary eyes and said ( in tagalog ) maraming salamat anak ( thank you very much son).

I was at first quite worried because she might burst into tears and into crying but what really worries me is some folks might think i was trying to rob the woman that's why she is crying(he he he).But in an instant we were exchanging and sharing stories, but she does 91percent  of the sharing. It was difficult talking to somebody on the road side while inhaling the semi fresh air from the smoke belching vehicles, with unseen and seen dust all over but  listening to her and the way she tells her stories made me detach from the noise and pollution that's finding its way to my lungs. ( uhu uhu uhu, cough cough cough)                                                                                                             

She tells about her children and the plight of their family and her long departed husband.But what aches my heart is when she told me that the last time she heard Happy Mothers Day greeting was more than two decades ago when her youngest child was still in the elementary. She said " now that they are professionals, got their jobs and have their own family they seldom contact me except when my pension arrives.(I did not ask why) "I miss my children but i don't know if they miss me."she continued.

Shes in the mood of sharing more and so i listened more, but while she tells me her life story with tiny , little tears flowing on her cheeks i saw my bus coming. There was a struggle in my thoughts. I wanted to get to that bus so i could see that important and special person that i need to meet but here's a woman who never felt special and important for ages (that's an exaggeration. but just allow me) and i can't just leave her there.

To put the struggle off, i closed my eyes and let the bus pass by. In my mind i was telling my self " i can let that bus and the opportunity of meeting someone important pass by but i can never allow this moment to make a mother who got so many stories to tell and aches to unload pass by.After 51 minutes of listening to her she said..." maraming salamat anak" (thank you son in English).

Then her bus came and off she goes while waving her hands to me.Did i made her feel happy? No doubt! Did i miss my appointment! Absolutely Yes! But i have no regrets."Ga sorry i miss my appointment with you. Yes you are an important and a special friend but that woman must feel special even in 51 minutes.

South Side Foot Ball Club

I tried to turn my eyes from South Side FC but though i have tried , my heart stays with them. There are time that i wanted to give them up for reasons i can enumerate like monitary, time and more like more (he he he) Yep, i wanted to just be raptured by some aliens who wants me to coach their planetary team or to train their inter galaxy and milky way players against Americas Galaxy but my heart was glued to my promise that i will stand beside my players as they learn about foot ball and as they learn about the importance of having a dream. It made me covered with immeasurable joy when their apathy was replaced with action, discouragement with hope, shyness melting like an ice cream and replaced with self confidence. It made me cry (in secret) when they joined me for a foot ball clinic for less fortunate kids. Yes i got players who got the attitude, who got difficulties relating with others and even with their families. I got confused youth and even terrible you. By the way theres also terrible guardians. But i can't give up my team, my players just for those reason. I may have players who will give up the team but it doesn't means i have to give up on him or her. I will coach them in foot ball and in life. And i will stand by them until they see and become what God wants them to become.My goal as a coach is for the team to win games and to win in life. I want them to be the prime example of what youth should be. South Side FC exist for purpose and goals. Be a part of more than the ordinary... be a part of South Side FC.

Push it Push it some more

When i was in the elementary. That was the time when i was still lovable now i'm simply bearable ha ha ha. My teachers labeled me as slow learner and slow reader.And they are actually true. I was the slowest in the class in everything. I am the slowest to climb the stairs, slowest to pass the answer sheets, slowest to answer, slowest to read and even the slowest to cheat he he he.

It's true i'm really the slowest to cheat among my cheater friends that's why i always get caught and there are also times we all get caught because i'm too slow. Really too slow that when i read you can go to sleep and when you wake up i'm still reading.(now that's the exxxxxagerated part)In my sports i am also the slowest.

But one day my foot ball coach told me that in order for me to excel and to achieve whatever i want, i need to push my self to the limit. I need to push my self into learning and learning and learning and not to put a limit on what i can possibly do and learn.

You know what? his words changes everything.After that day when he told me those life impacting words i started pushing my self. I push my self to read more and faster. I push my self to run faster, walk faster, write faster but not cheat faster. There are times that i wanted to be complacent but the words of my coach hunts me every time i stop pushing my self.

Many times i failed. I failed in life, relationships, in business and in other areas but i am still pushing. Every time i fail and fall, face flat down on the ground, i get back up and push my self again.Honestly at my age now 22 ( just kidding i'm actually 19 ha ha ha)I am 40 something, just make a guess whats the something, i am still pushing. I am still pushing my self to achieve my dream, i am still pushing my self to earn much because there are people that needs to be helped, i am still pushing my self to learn.

By the way i finish reading 4 books in a month. Is that fast or fast? But i'm still pushing.Are there areas in your life that needs pushing? Push it push it push it some more.

Sermon on the ground

Here's my message to my Foot Ball players minutes before we step on the field for the training...

Let me pull-out to you guys some lessons why you are in this football team. This team will offer you not just how to play football but more.

In this team you will always be reminded that:

You need to love your life and you should not allow anyone to take away from you your dignity and honor.

God has created you for excellence.So don't settle for the less.Play better than you are everyday in football, in your work, in your studies and in everything you do.

This team will teach you the importance of discipline.This has got to do with the things that you need to unlearn because discipline is the essence of success."Only a fool despises... discipline; whoever learns from correction is wise"

This team will teach you that it is okay to fail but you've got to learn from it and rise above it and not to quit because you can only fail if you quit.This team is not about giving up but about moving and rising up.

Here you will learn to dream. To see yourself in your mind playing at your best.To believe in your dreams and to have hope that it is possible.Success comes to the dreamer of great dreams.

This team will teach you the value of preparation and training.You are in school for your academic training, so value it and love it. You are in this football field to be trained so learn inch by inch and step by step.Success happens when dreams and hard work meets.

This Team will teach you the value of honor,humility,having a relationship with Jesus Christ as the greatest coach,commitment,goal setting,love,patience,perseverance,honesty,to follow instructions, teamwork and to celebrate someone's success and gratitude.

This team is not the field for cheating. If you cheat in your training and game in the foot ball field, chances are you will also cheat in any field of life.

This Team will prepare you in your journey to success. In this team everyone is valuable and needed.

As your coach my job is more than telling you what to do, how to do and what not to do.I will carry you and the team from the point of your development to the level where you want to be.It is important to me to see you grow in all areas of your life and not just in football.I will not just coach you in football but i will also coach you in life.

I believe in what you can become. I believe in your dreams.I believe in your goals in life I believe in your hopes. I believe that you will become better everyday.You are Gods precious child.Go for your Goals!

When you think it doesn't matter

People, Teams and organizations fail because of an accumulated wrong judgement and poor choices.And you may wonder why in the world a thinking, educated, intelligent person can afford to keep on doing wrong judgement and poor choices. Now heres why.....
Because he or she thinks that it doesn't matter, that its not important.

They don't think that missing the training matters.
They don't think that not listening to the coach matters.
They don't think that skipping classes matters.
They don't think that not working on their reports on time matters.
They don't think that lying matters.
They don't think that making a client wait for hours and days matters.
They don't think that a minute or hours spent on the very less important matters.

Are there things that doesn't seem to matter to you right now? Don't let Failure scream right on your very face soon.Whatever you do right now really matters.

Are you ready to comeback?

Everyone falls, we all in some seasons of our life plummeted down. This is a given thing in life and this as we all know is our ticket to success.Falling down, yes we do, but its the coming back up that is difficult and quite tricky.
Great leaders and celebrities are also doing their best to resurrect their careers and leadership after a big mistake.

Every day, people are rising back again, turning their lives around, some reposition their lives again.By the way its not just the people, companies are getting back on their tracks too.

So if they are trying to get back on their track or to a much better track, why can't you or why won't you. Don't just settle down and accept defeat. You are made for greatness. Theres power in you that will make you soar.Connect with people who can be your wind beneath your wings. People who are positive. People who have the bias for action and not people who will just watch life from the sidelines.

Yes you can. I really do believe you can. I don't care how many times you have fallen, how often times you've failed. You have a God who is stretching His arms to you right now.He wants you to come back, to excel, to live abundantly, to be happy and to bless others.If you are down right now, thats not where you are meant to be.You are made for excellence.Say this now... I'm coming back!

Words do come easy

Parents, Teachers and leaders who are sensitively aware of their behavior and how it impacts the people around them uses words that are empowering, life changing, war stopping, words that are kind. Sadly, there are some whose words scrapes and slices the layers of our emotions, spirits, personality and self worth.

Here's some of those words:

So what?

If you can't accept it, then leave.

Thats a good idea, but heres how to better do it.

Your idea is good but heres a better one.

If you don't like it you may go.

You are not learning.

You give me nothing but headache.

This is not a workplace for babies so stop acting like one.

What part of what i just said you guys don't understand?

When will you ever learn?

Can you do anything right?

Now, theres more of these words and i'm sure you've heard of them. Certainly people don't feel valued and energized when they hear such words. As a leader, parent, teacher or manager it is your responsibility to create and change the kind of environment where you are into a better one.. You can turn one chaotic office into a place where people would love to work. You can turn one messy, house into a paradise, you can transform a noisy classroom to a very inspiring heart moving place with your words.

Heres more:

An employee in the hospital emergency room catching his breath - FIX him! ( your employee is not a machine)

My high school kid can do a better work than you people.( really?)

Our neighbors kid is far better than you. (go adopt him)

Lets begin transforming our home, our classroom our workplaces into our desired place and build relationships that transports people from a shaky, chaotic, stressful, brain cracking situation to a world of serene relaxation. Yes we can if we use kind words.

A friend of mine who is a public teacher once ask me "Neil can you remind me why i am doing what i am doing", and then i explained to her that its because sometime ago you choose to do what you love to do.

Friend, what's your reason for choosing to be where you are right now and for doing what you are doing?

What's your reason for being at work today?

What's your reason for going to school?

What's your reason why you work abroad?

What's your reason why you took the leadership position?

What's your reason for having a family?

What's your reason for being where you are right now? I hope it is not just for the money money money but because you wanted to grow as a person and because you are following your life's purpose.

Don't work like a flat tire

I have seen employees who are working flat out yet still running and moving and doing their job. But because they are like a flat tire they never get their jobs done, they never get to their desired destination. Every employee desires to win in their work places and to go farther in their careers but along the way they burn out, they become unhappy, they blow up then they chose to step out. Gone are the dreams to win in their jobs, to be promoted and to be needed.

To be happy at work and to become a winner and to become the most recognized, highly valued, can't afford to lose employee, to be the apple in the eyes of your bosses and to get that promotion you wanted, you need to build your career that will label you as one great talent of your company. To do this you have to:

Focus on what you are doing

Always make things happen

Contribute to the success of your company and not just for yourself.

Make a difference in your co-workers life

Keep learning and empowering yourself

Be grateful

Shock people with your performance

Have a great support system from positive and honest people

Be an accepting person

Pray

God made you for excellence, so why settle down on a mediocre life as an employee, why settle down for a low rate performance. Get back into action and prove what you are made for and what you are made of. Do your best!
